My Handbag Seems Like An Abyss!

This is the problem every woman faces; what happens when you have too many things inside your handbag and it turns out to look like the abyss itself? The biggest problem though comes when you have too many handbags and you’re searching for specific things inside the wrong handbag.

Just take a look a this!

Seriously man! I know I’m spending many hours away from home during the week but what the hell did my passport want inside the handbag I take to work, almost every single day? It’s like I’ll instantly decide to take a trip to Tasmania and I’m just carrying it around, just in case!

I was just looking for some bus tickets yesterday (because of course they weren’t inside my wallet) and I found it. I was looking for my passport for the past couple of weeks. I thought I lost it! And I had; inside this abyss I have the nerve to call “handbag”.

But this isn’t all of it. I carry my beats around like a maniac, listening to music while using mass transit, my two cell phones (one for work and one for my personal conversations), dozens of textbooks, books and bottles of water. I wonder if I’d ever win medals in weightlifting. Because, believe it or not, my handbag is heavy. Like really heavy!

Which is why I have a pulled muscle behind my back and it hurts like hell! I can blame my personal abyss for that. And the tones of work we had this week. Thank the Lord! The pros and cons of running your own business.

This week though wasn’t just work. I met with my two closest friends and we went for drinks this Tuesday. It was really fun! Especially since I had almost a week to see them both! Too much work, all three of us. Not to mention that later that day, my cousin informed me that… I became an auntie! Do you remember me mentioning it on March Favs? If not, check it out!

As you saw in one of the pictures above, I bought a new book this week. Well, this is a lie; I bought three. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas, Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare, and Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth.

Of course, there will be extended reviews about those, probably around June or July. And that is because there are other reviews waiting to be published, for which I am super thrilled!

I’m currently reading ACOMAF and I honestly don’t want it to end! I’ll have to order the third instalment, A Court of Wings and Ruins, aka ACOWAR, and it is currently in stock! I mean, come one! I read ten books over the last three weeks and I won’t be paid until after the 25th of May! Another big problem for a bookworm, like me; novels are never enough!

But anyways… This week, after facing a serious writer’s block, I managed to write approximately a thousand words in the chapter I’m currently working on, and I’d really appreciate it if you could read it and tell me what you think about it. So… here it goes!

~Chapter 16: Violent Delights~

Andrew was standing outside the library, his blood boiling inside his head, his eyes glistening with the fate he was about to face. He could hear his meninges  pounding loud and clear, the Silver girl’s words echoing inside his mind. But he couldn’t go back, not now. No matter what she would say, he knew how to fight back. The decision had been made and the plan should eventually move forward.

He walked outside the building, leaving his sisters do their own preparations. For the first time after almost a month, they had started acting again as a team, as a pack. A month. It’s been almost thirty days since that disastrous hunt. The next hunt was approaching but Andrew wouldn’t be there. He had to hunt someone else, something else. And this time, he had to be successful.

Andrew realised he had taken the long road to the library once he came face to face with the sign, informing him he was walking down the Avenue of Champions. The route wasn’t well lit at that time of the day, mostly using and taking advantage of the light of the buildings on each side of it, the light of the stars and the almost full moon, preponderating on the night sky. Slippery spots on the paved road, due to the afternoon shower, along with the absence of proper lighting would have caused one hell of a tumble to anyone but Andrew. He was walking with confidence down the road, his back straight, his stare fierce, feeling the postmeridian moisture falling upon his face, smelling the dozens of Honeysuckle Winter Beauty that were planted along the length of the Avenue of Champions, as they were sending their sweet aroma through his nose and straight to his brain. And as he was approaching the library another dominant scent overwhelmed him. The scent of her. The smell of her blood. Intimate and warm and mouthwatering. No other smell was important that moment. No other person had as much value as she did. Pearl.

He entered the building, aware that they were probably the last ones being that late in the library. He could almost hear his footsteps echoing inside the six-storey edifice. The grand, mahogany desk of the back office was placed on the right side of the main entrance. Piles of books, documents and student records, three large Mac computers and two fax machines were covering the desk’s surface. A young librarian, not older than twenty-five years old, was sitting half asleep in front of one of the Mac screens. Her blond hair was caught up in a bun, her round glasses about to fall from the edge of her french nose. The moment Andrew was about to cross the back office, her red eyes fixed upon him.

“Good evening,” she said, her tone professional and strict, regardless her exhaustion. “The library closes in five minutes.” Andrew turned around. The lilliputian, young woman was now standing across him, ferocity and severity altering her features.

“Good evening ma’am,” Andrew responded, putting as much sweetness as possible in his voice. “Yes, I am aware of that. But my lab partner asked me to meet her here. She said she couldn’t carry all the books we need for our assignment back to her dorm.”

It was a white lie but the librarian didn’t seem to notice. On the contrary, her eyes warmed up at the sound of his words.

“All right. But make it quick,” she said, giving Andrew a piece of paper. “If I’m not here when you return, just fill in this form with the books you will borrow and their codes and place it in this box,” she went on, showing him a small counter at the left side of the desk.

“Thank you so much! Have a nice night!” Andrew said and started moving fast towards the source of his torment; towards Pearl.

He looked at his black, leather watch, the fine material feeling soft on his left hand. It was two to ten. Meet me tonight at the library. Ten pm, sharp, her words echoed again inside his mind and Andrew found himself running between the endless corridors of the library’s ground floor, with the enormous wooden bookcases, the oaken study tables and the smell of the timeworn books commingling with Pearl’s red scent. The clock struck ten and Andrew found her sitting behind a small desk at the end of a dark corridor, only the moonlight spreading through the window wall behind her illuminating the pokey place. Andrew stood across her and Pearl lifted up her face, only to stare at him blankly with those grey, weeping eyes, sending chips of silver through his system.

So… what do you think? Is it good? Is it bad? I know you can’t get much of the story, since this is just a random chapter to you, but I’d really like to know the general picture you get from it. My boyfriend said he liked it, but then again he may be a bit biased; and I love him for that!

Anyway. As you’ve probably figured out, this chapter’s title was inspired by the one-of-a-kind play of Shakespeare, “Romeo and Juliet”.

Not trying to imitate him, of course, but there’s as much abyss in my own WIP as there is in this magnificent play!

I hope all of you have a great weekend, spending it with the ones you love! I know I do! With my family, but mostly with my Mommy today! Happy Mother’s Day everyone! Make it count!

Till next time… Toodles!

Ugh, my handbag is definitely an abyss, too! 😂 Most recently, I keep losing my phone in mine; it’s ending up at the very bottom of the bag under everything, which is the last place I look for it lol. I’m glad you’re having a great Mother’s Day! I am, too. ❤
